Having lived here in the Netherlands for over 3 years now, I pride myself on having seen quite a bit of my new country. However one area that had not even registered on my radar until recently is Zeeland. I’m not really sure why; maybe its a little further than a day trip, maybe its virtues and beauty are not touted by the tourist board? However one of my photography friends visited the area recently, and after seeing some of his photos I knew it was somewhere I must go to.
So last weekend the opportunity for a weekend trip arose, and so my planning started. If you know me at all you will know I like a bit of an adventure – so rather than booking a boring hotel I went looking for something a little more unique and I was not disappointed. On Airbnb i found an old Clipper boat – ‘The Morgenster’ moored in the harbour in Zierikzee.
It’s such a fun, cosy, relaxing and unique place to stay. made all the better for the most amazing breakfast delivered to the deck each morning.
The boat is permanently moored in the pretty town of Ziekirzee just below one of the town’s old windmills. Perfectly placed to explore all the little cobbled streets and to walk to dinner in the town.
I can’t recommend this fantastic place to stay enough (and no i’m not being paid to say that). We genuinely loved the slow pace of life, the hospitality offered by the boat owners, and its great location. We look forward to going again soon.
