Gouda is a beautiful town in the West of the Netherlands – famous for its cheese! In all colours!!!!!!

Every year between April and August the town holds its cheese market each Thursday between 10am and 1pm. The market square is filled with a vibrant market…..and lots of cheese!

The characters on the market are great and I see the same guys every year, they have unique ways to barter on cheese price and are a lot of fun to watch.

I’ve been many times to photograph the cheese festivities, but i’ve never really ventured off the main square. So this week with a couple of friends we went exploring, and what I found was an amazingly picturesque and photogenic town with some amazing places to have coffee and lunch.

Once out of the square you can follow the tiny canals with little bridges cris crossing over them. Some lead to private houses, others lead to walled gardens and little shops to explore.

A really lovely town to visit on any day – but a sunny cheese market Thursday is my favourite!
