In 2023 I am running an ICM challenge for my creative photography online community group.
Each month January - November, they are given a trigger word - a subject to photograph, or a word to interpret.
The subject challenges are:
It is a fun challenge with a small competitive element. Because all those that submit and gain placings, also gain points towards the end of challenge awards.
Each challenge is judged by an external judge, who awards their top ten. The judges and subjects are:
January - Woodlands and trees - AnneMarie Hoogwoud. www.annemariehoogwoud.nl A wonderful creative photographer from The Netherlands who creates inteaging and inspiring ICM images. Her project 'The Quest' is a real inspiration, and I have been following her work since being lucky enough to meet in Amsterdam during her exhibition of the story.
February - Bleak - Doug Chinnery. https://www.dougchinnery.com/ Doug offered early inspiration in my ICM journey, and has continued to do so ever since. His work is an ever evolving creative journey which is a joy to follow. I especially love his ICM images, which look abstract paintings now.
March - Light and Dark - Valda Bailey https://www.valdabailey.com/ . Valda is a wonderful ICM and multiple exposure photographer, whose work I have followed for as long as I have created ICM images. Her earlier work of tree blossom I still love, but her recent work pushes one to interpret with your own imagination, her images.
April - Sky - Kim Grant - https://visualisingscotland.co.uk/ Kim is a wonderful and honest individual, I had the delight to meet in person in 2022. Much braver than me, she puts herself in front of her camera, creating wonderful and captivating vlogs on her photographic journey. She works with ICM and multiple exposures in Scotland.
May - Complimentary colours - Linda Bembridge - https://www.lindabembridge.me/ Since seeing Linda present a webinar on her work recently, I have become a massive fan! She not only creates the most beautiful images, but is willing to share her knowledge freely to help others in their creative journey.
June - Long Exposures - Shona Perkins - https://mybeautifulscotland.com/ Shona’s beautiful flowing soft ICM coastal images inspire many an ICM photographer, including me. Her depiction of the Scottish landscape is one of calm and beauty, which matches perfectly the name she works under 'My Beautiful Scotland'.
July - Lines and Angles - Justine Ritchie - https://www.justineritchie.com/ Justine lives in a tiny cottage on the side of a loch a million miles from anywhere, and I am in awe, having met her last year. She introduced me to forest bathing techniques, and I am hooked. Her beautiful work interprets the landscape and individuals around her, including the use of ICM.
August - Food - Judge to be announced
September - Reflections - Judge to be announced
October - A location - Andy Gray - https://andrewsgray.photography/ Andy is a photographer that I introduce every one of my workshop attendees to. His unique use of ICM and multiple exposures reminds me of the beautiful paintings of Turner. He has a wonderful YouTube channel and offers super how to videos.
November - Autumn colour - Eric Malm - https://erikmalm.com/ Last but most definitely not least, Eric joins the judging line up. Eric's work is unique in the way that he merges still elements and moving elements together in one ICM image. It's a technique that requires a certain vision and a lot of patience. Many of Eric's ICM images are beautiful and at the same time erie, as a mist seems to float between the image and your vision.
I also award a favourite 5 in addition to show the diverse appreciation of images.
Enjoy these photos, created by some super talented individuals - all who have followed a course or competed mentoring with me.
Each album contains in order - the winner, runner-up, top 10 and all the other entries. The Top 10 are photographer named - the remainder are numbered as they appeared for the judging.
